Hello,
Well, I'm going to order some real nut files and I have a few questions.
Are the Stewmac single-size files the recommended files to get?
I usually use light strings and occasionally extra light (for electric guitar).
If I size the slots for lights, can I still use extra lights?
Is it possible to get away using three files, or do I need to buy a set of six?
How much wider should the slot be than the wire thickness?
When I file the slots, should they be parallel with the strings or match the angle between the nut and tuners?
Thanks for any advice you fellows care to share.
Dan

My first nut files were from stew mac. There are others that make equally as good products. LMI is one of them and there are others. Yes you can get away with three sizes thats what I did originally. You can roll the file to get a wider slot. And yes you can put extra lights in slots originally cut for lights. The problem may be if you try to put larger strings in slots you cut for lighter gauge. They would be to snug requiring you to widen them....Mike
