Hi, I'm helping a friend to repair an old les paul that belonged to his father. we're not certain about the history of the guitar, but it looks like it was hand made by someone long time ago.

I just replaced the pots, and was going to put a 3 way switch (it currently has two 2-way on-off switches, so you can turn on pickups individually, and you can turn both of them off at the same time) but he wanted something more like a real LP, so he bought a 3 way switch. problem is that this switch is on-off-on. is it possible to somehow make both pickups active when switch is in middle position? because we didn't find a real les paul switch at the local electric parts store.

thanks in advance!

Think you're going to need the proper switch. That's why stew mac and others can charge what they do for them, most electronics suppliers do not have them.

Get the proper switch (twelve bucks at StewMac, worth it), but don't wire it in the classic fashion. Instead use the "alternate" wiring scheme here

http://www.stewmac.com/freeinfo/Electro ... -5408.html

With the normal LP wiring if the switch is in the center (both pups) and you turn down one volume control you shut off both. With this one each pup is controlled by its volume, but you mix the results
