Post subject: | About wood choice??? |
Hi! Haven´t been around here with any of the topics lately. But I have looked your topics and one semi-hollow design got my eye on it, don´t have the time to find it, but I´d like to get answers going. It was the one, where the neck part would go as far as the bridge goes and the sides where about 3/4 inch wide copying the outline of the (les paul) guitar design. I think you all know that picture. Anyway, I´m planing my third build. I want to take this type as my plan body and make still my favorite neck thru design from it. But I want it to be exactly like the vision in my head - I got it waking up in one morning and it´s haunting me since then, I guess I just have to make it real then. It´s already on the paper. It´s redwood top/back with black ebony bindings and light middle section. I will use Bare Knuckle passive pups on it, I have consulted with them and I wait their verdict for this design. I want it to have Les Paul personality in sound, thin fast neck and lighter weight than LP. I will use it to play hard rock with a bit metal verse sounds and double harmonized guitar solos. We have a bit clean bluesy licks too, so pups will be chosen by this description, medium output humbuckers with coil split function on them as suggested by BKP. I want the guitar to respond to these wishes too. I want to use curly redwood as top and back. And this semi-hollow design middle section would be obviously sandwiched between redwood plates. Neck would be maybe just maple laminate or maybe mahagony maple laminate. You could suggest other combinations aswell. Can you give suggestions what wood to use for the middle section, according to the description? And maybe you could give suggestions on the inner design of the chambers too, I think of neck running through and being a bit shaved thinner in the middle and behind, between the bridge and heel point and behind the bridge block. It will probably have carved top, with bores filled with epoxy, because redwood is pretty soft as I have been told. Have a great holidays and happy end of the year. |
