One of the things I can't seem to track down is the setscrews/sleeves needed and any type of inserts for making your own knobs - anyone out there have any suggestions? On the dueling dragons, I took an old set of fender vol/tone knobs and glued them into the bottom of the custom wood kobs I made (After grinding them down with my Dremel)- any experience/suppliers would be appreciated! |

You can probably get set screws at your local hardware store, or here http://www.mcmaster.com/#set-screws/=fcne8j for guitar knobs, I would recommend the cup point, the knurled cup point, or the cone point. |

Someone already mentioned McMaster-Carr. You might check McFeely's too. I get that stuff locally at "Tacoma Screw", but I've never ordered from them online. http://www.tacomascrew.com/products/search/set%20screw |

I have always wondered if there were somewhere that you could get nurled inserts for that, but If there is I haven't found it. as far as set screws I just bought mine from fastenal, they carry them all the way down to #4 I think, and they have an outlet within walking distance of my house. |

Something like that? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUSHING-PARTS-M ... 385wt_1398 or like that: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SET-PARTS-MAKIN ... 484wt_1398 Obviously, I have NO affiliation with the Ebay seller... but I have bought from them in the past and was pleased with the quality of the products! |

Yes- this is what I was looking for - I did find something similar at the local Lowe's but they are pricey - Do you guys feel that the allen wrench for them should be supplied with a guitar or not? |

I wouldn't think that would be necessay, Virgil. I know I've got tons of allen wrenches in the tool box from various sources, so I'd probably have one that would work anyway, but maybe I'm not like most people |

If they're on a completed guitar, I'd say no. You would include everything needed to perform a setup, but in theory, the knobs are permanently installed. If you were selling knobs a la carte, I'd think a wrench might be included. |

If you're making hardwood knobs (I presume you're making wood knobs) then I don't think you need any inserts. A hardware store set screw ought to be just fine, and will probably even self-tap its own hole if the hole is sized right. But you might not even need a set screw. I made a walnut knob for the volume control on my archtop and simply pressed it onto the pot shaft. That was three years ago and it's still on there tight--and straight, too. I figured if it ever loosened up, I could add a set screw at that point. Thus far, unnecessary. Patrick |
