Remember what someone told me yesterday? Not likely. My daughter had to clue me in on how to use my own pc to post pics and such. She`s a photographer, no less! (Ya coulda told me how to do this, kid!) I am so glad to say that I`ve FINNALLY found a way to get pics posted since we went to the newer format (I just needed to fool around with the pc enough). Do you remember your first electric built/rebuilt guitar? I just ran accross the pics I took while trying my hand at it for the first time in the early part of `08. And I give you the Hamer. This was a car-trunk special that wandered in... Attachment: guitarpics 044.jpg The poor beast had been poorly treated. But then again, many more remain so. I regret to be able to show the greasy cheeseburger stains and a couple of tuners with missing buttons. What a mess I had going on! Imagine that, sandpaper, rubbing compound, and a whetstone in close proximity to electronics, not to mention the Camels and an ashtray! I`m proud to say that I know better nowadays (I think so, anyway). Attachment: guitarpics 050.jpg Here is the body coated liberally with Krylon. At that point in time and being as the body was a slab of MDF, I took the spray bomb route.Attachment: guitarpics 050.jpg I regret to say that I can`t show you all the yummy details in getting the fretboard and neck cleaned up. I just took it as part of the job that nobody wants to see. In this pic, I was getting the grasp on how the setup was going to be. Attachment: guitarpics 051.jpg Add your own custom pickguard to replace that black potato chip, and spend a week setting her up! BTW, I did shield and pot the pickups. This mellowed it out alot. Easy to control on the electronic side (for a first-time stab at it). |

You don't want to see my early work. Nobody does. |

Well, at least from camera range, it looks to me like you made a pretty good save there--even if it was a real early project for you. I've got a classical that I built back in the 90s some time. It's got some real rough looking spots, but on the other hand, most of it looks good and it's a real good player. The owies would only be obvious to a good builder. I'm going to be without camera for about ten days, but if this thread is still running when I get the camera back, I'll post a few shots and give everyone a chuckle. Patrick |
