Drew from Thunder Bay, Ontario here. This forum has been a part of my everyday life for months and months now, and I figured I had may as well join!

I have one question to start off with - could the wood, should it be cut and prepared properly, from an early 20th Century upright piano, be suitable for use in guitar construction? Would the age of the wood and its previous finish cause its structural integrity to be compromised?

Oftentimes those pianos' cases were made of mahogany, if that information is helpful.

Thanks alot.

Welcome to the forum! I would think that it would be fine to use. People are giving away old pianos left and right here, maybe someone would know what wood is useable more than others. Alot of pianos use veneers instead of solid wood too. Happy guitar building! Jason

Took apart more than one piano for the wood, and used it in a guitar.
Go for it!

Hey, if you build with piano wood,
you won't need a "Tone-Rite"!
Welcome to da forum!
I guess you are planning to build electrics out of this piano wood?
