I have a customer who brought in a Squire Strat for some neck adjustments and he is also having some volume issues. He recently installed a StewMac drop in pre wired pickguard assembly, and there is a significant drop in volume when the 5-way switch is in the 2 and 4 positions. I'd say about a 75% drop in volume. I build acoustics and am gradually starting to learn about electric wiring, but I'm not sure what could cause this. As it is a brand new pick-guard assembly he could easily return it for a new one, I'm just wondering if anyone knows what causes this and if it is an easy fix. I haven't had time to take the guard off and look at the wiring yet but should get to that in the next day or two. Thanks Josh |

Sounds like the middle pickup is out of phase. Reverse the two lead wires coming off of it to the the switch and back of the potentiometer. |
