OK, since I had so much fun making the 90 mm plane earlier this week, I just HAD to make a smaller one, but pimped it out at the same time - I'm saving some money and having fun at the same time... first I went to Home Depot and bought a Buck planer blade for $2.89 and cut it to size:

I used plenty of cool water whilst cutting it - remember kids, SAFETY FIRST!

The remains - looks like I can cut 2 smaller blades with the leftover!

The woods/materials I used on planer # 2 were: Gabon Ebony, Kewazinga (Bubinga), Mahogany, Bocote, Rosewood, sheet brass(For layering with wood) & solid brass (for the nose & handle top) & a nail (for the pin)

I have to admit, this plane is a bit smaller than the other one I made - 3.08" long x 1.29" wide body, but weighs more than #1 because of all of the ebony & brass - it feels real comfortable in my hand, but I will see if it actually works on Guitar # 2's carved top, which is in the sanding/gluing process - will post pics soon!

What? No inlay? You are really getting lazy now aren't you? That plane is ridiculous. And I mean that in a good way. You sure don't like making simple things do you?
Sweet plane dude. Really kick ass.

LMAO Tony! I was seriously considering an inlay, but am holding off for now - still need to make my scrapers, and put some coats of poly on the Dragons Pup rings and trussrod cover before the big return next week - wait till you see guitar # 2 bro .... "The Silver Willow"... thanks for your kind words!

Very nice, Virgil. I like the integral handle/wedge/lever screw design. You'll probably build more.
You obviously enjoy the process. So do I.

Hey.... don't tease me like that, I didn't get no PM! I had someone suggest that I try selling on E-Bay tho... that would be more funds to finance my new nasty habit!

Hey - thanks man, the thumbscrew really locks in the blade well - the button at the end wasn't fitting into the body when first making it and it was already CA glued to the gear and the screw and I was wondering how to make it a smaller diameter to fit, then the answer came to me... i locked the screw into the chuck of my drill press, then took a sanding block and ran it against it, followed by some sandpaper roll strips to smooth it out and round off the edge. Viola! Smaller diameter= fitting into slot!

As much as I would indeed love one, I can't expect someone to actually just send me one for shits and giggles hahah. plus, the only size I still NEED is one of the really small ones that would probably be too small to do like this.
Chris
PS: a planer is a big tool with spinning blades that thicknesses. These are just planes.

What size ya looking for? I am always up for a challenge - we were just looking at some of the smallest violin planes this am and saw one with a 5mm blade - if I could find screws small enough, I betcha I can make one!

Planers/planes..... Ahhh, gotcha - thanks for the correction - this verifies as to how much of a newb I still am at woodworking! August will be my 1 year anniversary to starting my first build and I feel I have barely "planed" the surface. laughing6-hehe

Just like most users around here, I love working with wood, so why not fill my time!

Did you take the Virgin Records logo and put an "L" on it? Ilike it.

Virgil, in response to a point raised in your other post (by nyazzip) but still hopefully relevant to you here fwiw a when getting heat into the steel you are reworking into blades etc quench the steel in oil instead of water and you wont damage its temper.
