Hi!

I have now played with my first guitar for a while and it sure has more wow factor than ordinary shop instruments. It plays really well and it´s a workhorse. This instrument got me my first customer too and that´s the reason I´m starting this post here.

Customer wanted a 7-string electric guitar, with one pup and one vol.
It will be a mix inspired by Caparison and Black Machine designs.

specs:

Swamp-ash body
24 frets, 25,5" scale
ebony fingerboard
bubinga/maple maybe M/B/M or M/B/M/B/M style laminate bolt-on neck
Bare Knuckle Aftermath 7 bridge pup
black tinted headstock top laminate/body top or special thin top, with ebony looks(Played one guitar with this top and without close inspection I really thought that it is ebony top. Anyway, customer wants one of these, lets see.
Hipshot hardtail 7 string .125 bridge
Hipshot tuning machines
Black hardware

Parts are almost all ordered and waiting to get my hands dirty. Tomorrow I want to get the plan made and design drawn.

When parts arrive, then I´ll start posting pictures too.

Bye for now

Hello again,

First stuff is arriving, swamp ash body blanks, ebony fingerboard, don´t know how, but, 2x bottles titebond wood glue(ordered one bottle, though it´s not bad) and wood bending iron.

waiting for hipshot hardtail 7 string bridge, hipshot tuners and bare knuckle aftermath pickup.

Hope to finish the design and get a good deal with the workshop rent.Image

Got my things going, today was pretty productive already. I got myself a whole punch of stuff including truss rod, nut and neck wood. I have already cut the pieces for my bolt-on neck and now they are under the glue, Titebond 2 really is fast and good.

made a bodyplan too, it came out that, black machine is actually exact copy of ibanez body design when you look at the outlines, so used 7 string ibanez template from luthier with who I share workshop with.

anyway plan is here, bad pic, though and glued neck blank is also here

Got started with the build

Here you can see the plan better, the last pic was a crap. Today I cut out the body, prepared neck for the headstock attachment with scarf joint. On the pictures you can see various details, that are already willing to get together. This build is going to be simple, because that´s how this is ordered. Anyway, I´m not very good at this posting yet like most of you here are, but I´m practicing so questions and tips can be useful.

Hi

Today I got my things going again. I routed the truss rod channel, it had a problem though, I have headstock glued on already and so I couldn´t use the edge of the neck blank to guide the router, I had to build a pile from boards and then I made one board edge parallel to the center line of the neck blank to route the channel. Got that done, then I had to glue on the fretboard, It got me worried, because the fingerboard blank had a little curve today, so it was not completely dry, too bad. So I didn´t use the little pins to fixate the fingerboard while clamping and it was real pain in the ass to get that right. Titebond 2 leaves little time to fix my errors. Anyway, mistakes are things from where you learn the most, so I´m not sad or angry, just lost a bit of time and made myself a bit more work to do.

Got my Hipshot and Bare Knuckle staff too, today. Like little kid in the candy store I must say bliss
