Ive got a mahogany body and Im going to put some walnut burl veneer on the face of it. Should I glue on the veneer before or after cutting and routing the body? Im worried about it chipping. Also, what glue do you reccomend? Will regular wood glue (perhaps titebond 2 or 3) work? Thanks! -Alex

Hey Alex,

I'm going to impart upon you the total cheater way to veneer a flat surface.

You are going to need some Tightbond 1, a glue roller and a clothes iron. Use the glue roller to spread an even layer of glue on both the veneer and substrate. Set aside to dry. Once the glue is fully cured, lay the veneer on the substrate and use the clothes iron to iron on the veneer. The heat of the iron melts the two layers of glue and they stick together like..... Glue!

You can install the veneer whenever you like. If you adhere it properly to the sustrate there should be no problems with chipping.

Steve

Fancy that. Prepare a few and you can change it according to your mood. [clap]

This worked perfectly. I did a few practice process to see exactly how much I wanted to let the glue dry. I let it go JUST past the point a tack to where it was just starting to become lone solidified. Absolutely nothing went wrong, the veneer went on great leaving a perfectly smooth surface with no bubbles. Thanks for the help! -Alex
