Hey guys this is my first post here, I wish I had found this place sooner. I will start off telling you a little about my back ground. I have been playing guitar for about 13 years now. I built my first one in shop class my sophomore year in 2000 or 2001 i cant remember. It was nothing more that a squire guitar i got at a pawn shop, i robbed the electronics and the neck and built a copy of the body. It wasn't pretty, but it was a start. I have started several builds since then only to give up half way through due to mistakes. I think i have it figured out this time, we shall see. I finished my first complete build from scratch about a month ago, only to have it completely ruined by a pest control service that sprayed down everything in my shop with there power sprayer. the hardware is toast and the finish was ruined. I decided to start over fresh with what i had learned. I am now in the middle of that build and it is going well. I am not new to woodworking, in fact i am the 3rd generation of woodworker in my family. I have tools and the knowledge of how to use them, what i don't have is guitar building experience. My dad has helped along the way, but he is not a guitar player so he approaches everything from a cabinet building point of view. Here are some pics of the guitar i am in the middle of, my wife has the camera today so ill post beter pics once she gets home. I look forward to talking with you guys and hopefully i can pass on some knowledge along the way.

You are correct, there is another body under the first. I have 6 necks going at the moment, somewhat mass produced. I will be making 6 bodies to go with them, 3 different designs. The templates im working on are geared to mass production.

Welcome. Looks like you've got some cool toys (tools) there. I like the pin router. Having good tools is half the battle.

My advice to you is to get out now while you still can.
Crate up your equipment and send it all to me for disposal.
Save yourself before it is too late!

(I kid. Welcome and good luck)

The pin router is amazing, if i had the room i would get an industrial one in a heart beat. It was a pain to set up, takes 4 hands and several hours, but its worth it. I think i have all the tools i need lol, not to brag but if anyone is interested my equipment list is as follows.
1. 10in Rockwell contractor saw. Its older than me and built better than most cabinet saws of today.
2. 6in Rikon jointer.
3. 15in Delta planer
4. 17in Grizzly band saw
5. 18in Grizzly drum sander
6. small Delta dust collector
7. Porter cable full size drill press.
8. Shop Fox pin router.
9. Skill chop saw.
10. small Grizzly shaper
and lots of hand tools.

I used to be a full time cabinet maker before the economy went south. Although i didnt work out of my shop i did make allot of stuff for the shop i worked for in my shop in my spare time. Thats why I have all these tools. They sure do come in handy for guitar making though. :)

It looks like you're on the right track judging by the pictures but if you want a resource, "Build an electric guitar with Robert O Brien" answered a lot of questions for me.
