Hey guys. This is my second scratch build. I posted a build thread here for this guitar, but didn't get a lot of views, so I thought I'd repost some pics of it for the rest of the forum to see. Firstly, the specs:
Tele shaped soft maple body
Carved top
Honduran mahogany set neck
24.562" scale length
22 med. jumbo frets
EIRosewood 'board
Maple fret markers
Black walnut headplate
flamed maple truss rod cover, heel cap and rear cover plate
GFS Vintage '59 pups
Vol/vol/tone (at the time these pics were taken I was waiting on a tone pot. It has since been installed).
Finish is 8 coats of Minwax Wipe on poly.

Very nice, Mike. Exactly the kind of guitar build I prefer - simple, elegant - a classic!

SWEET!
I love plain maple.
I never noticed the neck heel cap.
Subtle.
Nice job! [clap] [clap] [clap]

How does it sound, Mike? How does it play. With those pups I'm guessing it's like a mellow Les Paul.

It sure looks nice. How'd you like that wipe on poly? Once you get rolling with poly there isn't an easier way to get a finish on.

Thanks for all the comments/compliments, guys. Stuart, I think it sounds great! The video link is a good representation. I recorded it in a well treated room straight to an amp with a decent quality Large Diaphragm condensor mic. It does indeed sound a lot like a Les Paul, which is what I was aiming for(can't help it, that's the sound i hear in my head).
I love the pickups. They've got a good, full sound clean, with just the right amount of compression when played wide open. They also produce quite a bit of distortion on the dirty channel. I found I have to back the gain down quite a bit or it's just over the top for me. Very pleased with the guitar as a whole. The wipe on poly was dead simple, but it would take me a while to get to the level of quality I'm capable of with lacquer. I may work on that, as it would make a good finish in the winter when I can't shoot lacquer.
