Post subject:  Fretting term abbr "SW" (stud width)

A quick question for the fretboard builders please or anyone with the answer.
Does the term stud width (abbr SW) refer to the tang width plus the width of the two barbs?
I spotted this term on a fairly accurate profile of a fret drawing but have never heard the term refered to in frets before.

Maybe it's slot width, the actual slot cut size?
