Post subject: | Guitar wiring questions |
Hi, I have a friend who brought me a guitar to re-do the electronics since it's all pretty messed up. Strat-like junk guitar. It has 3 single coils (no name), 1 volume and 2 tones. No 3-or-5-way switch, but instead 3 On/Off DPDT switches; one for each pickup. Now the volume/tone part I can handle, but since I am overall pretty new in guitar repair I still can't quite get my head around the logical behind all the electronics. So how do I go about wiring the switches? The pickups all have 3 wires (Green and Black coming from the winding, Red soldered to the baseplate). I've searched the web but haven't found anything that helped me, so if anyone has some interesting links or could shed some light on this for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you very much! |

I have never seen 3 single coil with 3 switch on/off.. but maybe this could help. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=3s_1v_2t_3on-offswitches Is the middle pickup's polarity inverted, like on regular strat wiring? |

I would think the switches would be wired in-line with the pick-ups. The wires from each pick-up run to it's own switch, and then runs from the switch to the volume pot. This configuration would work for turning them on or off. |

Fender's wiring diagram site..not sure of what they have, hope it helps! If it doesn't, a great book is Guitar Electronics for Musicians; by Donald Brosnac. http://www.fender.com/support/wiring_di ... _lists.php |
