i was wondering if the location of the bridge matters and if so how to locate it this is what i have, its a wraparound bridge |

i did have books but they were rentals, the only things im worrying about are the neck pocket and bridge location so what your saying is from the 12th fret down is my distance from the neck? |

12th is half-way. Measure from nut to 12th, and then take the same measure from the 12th towards the body, and you'll find your bridge placement. |

What I do, is, take the overall string tength, figure out rough compensation, which will be longer, an 1/8" or so, then center the adjustable string saddles on the bridge, make sure you can get the compensated string lengths on the 1st and 6th strings. Then put the bridge square to centerline. Always worked for me. Purchase the Ibex fret rule scale. I use it all the time. It doesn't have the Gibson or Fender scale lengths, but who cares? I never had a problem adjusting my playing on either one. Lay it out on paper. I could measure the compensation figured on the Ibex, and it would give you an idea what the compensation will probably be. Make any sense to you? Or anybody? |

matt this would be a really good book for you, http://www.amazon.com/Music-Sales-Make- ... B00065PX5Q. i built my first electric when i was in high school as well , and my shop teacher checked this out of his local library and photo copied the whole book for me, 18 bucks is not a bad price. it covers the basics of just about everything and will take you step by step through a build really similar to what you are doing right now. it will answer just about any of the questions that you are going to have right now and will give you a much better understanding of what you are doing, it will save you a lot of time if you dont have to wait for answers from this site every time you get stumped with something that you will later realize is trivial but can instead just go to the book for a couple minutes and find what you need. |

Filippo is right. You need a manual. You need a lot of "stuff". Buy what you can afford, and in a few years, you say "look at all this stuff I have!" |
