I bought a Warmoth style neck from Warmoth (the PRS looking model). The one I bought has a heel like a strat and is pre drilled to be a bolt on neck. I would really like to glue it in instead of bolting it on, but I'm not sure if that small of a heel will give it enough support without bolting it on. Any thoughts? Thanks! |

I don't think the size of the heel will be the problem. If it's standard fender size it's 3" long, which should give you plenty of gluing surface, IMHO. Everyone likes the long tenon, but if you look at some guitars, for instance Gibby's LP JR, all the plans I've seen call for a 2 and 3/4" tenon, and they seem to hold up fine. The problem with gluing in a bolt on neck is that A) There is no support for the tenon on the treble side(which may or may not be a problem, and B)Unless you alter the body somehow, it'll look funny, and be obvious that it was meant to be a bolt on. My opinion? There's nothing wrong with a bolt on neck. I'd bolt it together the way it was designed. MHO. |

I need to read your post closer. You did not say whether you were using a body designed for a bolt on neck or not. That was an assumption by me. Sorry. If you build a body dsigned around that neck, it should look and work fine. My current build has a 3" tenon that is the full width of the neck, set into the body and glued. Of course, the heel is 1.5" thick, so there's a little more surface area to glue, but the same principle. Attachment: DCFC0038.JPG Attachment: DCFC0048.JPG I strung it up in the white, before finish. It's rock solid, and this is my first build, but I don't anticipate any problems. |

This is about 8 years old and rock solid. It sounds great or so others who keep asking me to sell it to them say. You must have a really tight fit to make this work and you only get one chance to get it right so if you go this way be thorough. Best of luck, enjoy the build. Another version |
