Post subject:  Making Wooden Control Knobs

My first post here,

Here's my first attempt at how to make a simple control knob out of wood.
I found a aluminum collar with a set allen screw at the local hardware. (.25" ID and .5" OD-$2)
Using a 3/4" plug cutter cut into a piece of stock but not through.
Drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the plug
Cut out the plug with a bandsaw.
Drill a hole for allen screw access.
Sand and finish.
Glue in the collar, lining up the allen screw to the hole you drilled.

Sounds like it will work, but you can uncomplicate things simply by tapping a whole through wood...It will work fine with a 6-32 set screw...

I made a shaft that I could then insert into the main hole - secured with the set screw and then put it in my drill press to polish up...
