I had the same idea on some guitars, it works ok, but kind of a pain to remove the pickup. I have decided to go back to puting it at the nut end. Frank Hartung guitars puts an access at the 21st fret to adjust the truss rod.

Looks like if I get the placement right, it can fit under the trim ring.

I've done it. A rod with and LMI like hex nut works too.

That seems like a good place for the adjuster if its compatible with the guitar design. I have just been putting it at the heel of the neck, kinda a pain for adjusting.

Try a search on Gotoh SAT-1 and SAT-2. That is their side adjust trussrod for eletric 1 and 2 piece necks.
