hi. new to this forum. i am planning on building a bc rich bich supreme. without all the controls i bought some 0.6mm flamed maple veneer off ebay around a year ago. ment for another guitar at the time. but it was way too small. was that nice i had to buy it lol slowly getting around to gathering everything needed for it, wood wise. all i have is the veneer top. still pondering what body and neck woods to use as its my first Proper attempt (shaped a body blank to a dime333) can someone advise me on how to put this on. i know. glue it. but should i go at it straight onto the body. or use some thicker veneer as a bottom piece and glue it onto that. along with the 2 dark strips before it goes onto the body.. also would someone be kind enough. if you own one of these. to upload a picture of the control cavity. will add a pic of the flamed maple. if it lets me. cheers |

I would go with something thicker then a veneer for the top. Usually something about a 1/4" is used for tops. Veneers can be ruined with one little nick or dent that can show the underlaying wood. Maple is always a good start with a neck threw guitar. Early bc riches often used koa and black walnut for body laminates. I think mahogany would work well as would some of the newer popular woods like coco bola and padauk. |

i dont have any other wood so all the doors are still open. ive been changing my mind costantly about what to use lol i am now thinking of a 3pc iroko top/back, wenge or maple body splices. and meranti or sapele middle and a maple n sapele 5pc neck (if i can find a radius sanding block) there non existant in the uk online shops. |

You can find the radius sanding blocks on Ebay uk. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LUTHIERS-FINGERBOARD-RADIUS-SANDING-BLOCKS_W0QQitemZ330413443937QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Guitar_Accessories?hash=item4cee2d0b61American companies like Stewart Macdonald ship to the uk but they will probably get you on shipping charges. Theres also a great video where the guys builds a BC rich style neck through guitar available in the UK. The guys cuts the tree down and dry the wood and all. Pretty good. I ordered it about a year ago from the UK. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/A-Complete-Custom-Electric-Guitar-Build-DVD_W0QQitemZ380212387084QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV?hash=item58866c9d0c |

thanks for the links. i have seen clips of this dvd on youtube, will be getting it soon. as for radius block. i bought one from AIGUITARS (ebay) still waiting on it arriving, hopefully within the next few days. i have had martin kotch's build a guitar book. and the art of inlay. watch youtube videos all the time. i can read lol but taking in what im reading...... its easier for me to take stuff in if i watch someone doing it than reading about it. even started thinking about winding my own pickups. want to do too much. too fast. |
