| Post subject: | Broken truss rod |
Today I decided to adjust my personnal electric bass, viewing that the neck needed a little twist... So I came to turn the truss rod clockwise and...nothing. Stucked there, impossible to move. So, I said to my self: okay, okay, i'll play like this! So I began to play, all seems normal, until I begin to slap. At the first thumb hit on my E-string, I knew there was something wrong. I strong rattle, coming from somewhere around the neck... After a careful listening, it's defenitively coming from the truss rod. I've never done this type of repair, so i'm really confused. And I have to say it's my only electric bass, and I need it 'cause i'm playing in a band. So, what can I do? |

Ti-Roux wrote: So, what can I do? Well Ti...you fix it. Ya, there are a lot of other things you can do but the point is...its broken and is gonna stay broken till you fix it. Sorry to here you being confused....ain't no big deal...you pull the fret board, dig the old rod out, slip in a new one and slap it all back together...one day repair job if that. Simple eh...whats to be confused. Bet if you call around, you'll find someone who can loan you a bass. Might be even able to rent one. But now you have learned the lesson of why you keep an old $50. beater from the pawn shop in your cloths closet. Oh and ya...sorry to hear about yer bass. Real drag. blessings the Padma |

Taking the fret board off, then putting it back can be a real pain, how 'bout just getting a new neck ( I'm assuming it's a bolt on?) |

As repairs go, it's only slightly more annoying than a full refret; clothes iron, putty knife, off it comes. Reglue with epoxy, done. It's also good practice. No need to go off and get a new neck; this is a repair that can be finished in an afternoon. |
