Post subject: | How to install a hotrod truss rod with spoke nut? |
I'm building a Gibson SG-like electric guitar and would like to know how to install the double acting hotrod truss with a spoke nut in the end. I'd like to install it so the spoke nut is at the body side of the neck and have the top of the spoke nut be even with the surface of the finger board. The Music Man guitars have a similar installation, but in my case, I would cut a slot in the end of finger board to allow this (24 fret and only using 22). Note at this point in the neck, I'd be close to the neck pickup and the tenon would get routed out. My questions are: (1) can anyone provide any general advice or refer to a site that has installation information, and (2) would I cut the slot all the way through the heel end of the neck to allow the spoke wheel to stick out the end or must the spoke wheel be housed inside the neck? Thanks. |

This is the only time I've seen it done, and the way I would do it. Peavey milestone 3 |

Thanks - that very similar to what I was envisioning. Is that one of the stewmac hotrods? What holds the rod inside the neck - the back of the neck pocket? What I'm afraid of is that on the SG I'm building, the top of the neck tenon gets routed out because of the neck pickup and it would seem to do it the way your pic shows would mean the spoke nut would but up against the pickup instead. |

Its the neck off a Peavey Milestone 3 bass. Not really sure what your talking about with the pickup, but as long as the top of the spoke is exposed its ajustable. |
