My name is David and I live in Missouri. I'm 51 and have been making a living for the past 29 years in the custom cabinet and woodworking trade. I've loved guitar since I can remember and only began seriously applying myself to learning to play about six years ago. A couple of months ago I started looking into building myself a guitar when I finally had a computer in my home and internet. As I researched and learned I grew in confidence that I can produce a fine instrument with the wood joining skills I have aquired and my patient attention to detail. I joined this forum because it seemed mature to me. I have already found answers to most of my questions cruising various forums, including this one. I do have a few more questions and I assume more will come up, but they can wait. My employer doesn't mind personal projects on our off time, so I am blessed to be able to work in a modern well equipped shop. In my opinion, the guitar is the ultimate instrumet for musical expression, especially the electric. |

Welcome Dave...while the OLF has been primarily an acoustic forum, we have recently formed an electric section. Many of us have tinkered in "the dark side" and used our imagination related to solid body to archtop electrics and everything in between. I'd recommend looking through some of the past threads in the electric section to get an idea of what has been attempted . If you have any specific questions, comments or plans, feel free to ask and discuss here. Looking forward to your participation and involvement. |

Not a problem at all Rob. I actually enjoy my occasional visits to the Dark Side ... and I believe it helps to make the necessary paradigm shift for me when building electrics. Whatever you're building, enjoy the ride! |

Welcome, Dave! About the "darkside", I would submit that the acoustic is actually the "dark side", as it was electricity that truely turned the light on. |

I too have jointed the dark side and expanded building electrics. I love Les Pauls and strats. It can become habit forming. |
