This is my very first build, finished almost a year ago.

J-Bass shape, a bit modified, from a 2 piece swamp ash
P/J pickup combo, from Seymour
1-piece hard maple neck, bolt-on 4 screws
Schaller bridge, tuners and straplocks
Ebony knobs and electronics cover (back)
Bone nut

Finished with several thin coats of polymerized tung oil, applied with a cotton rag. A bit of micromesh, then some wax.
No porefilling.

Wait wait wait wait wait!? What?! No sir, this can't be true. Looks like you needa get together with SCGib68... figure out a day you're both free. That's how we do it round here.

Let me know when and I'll bring the good stuff!

i liked the flame pi fingerboard you had, other than that, pi is ok, it never really thrilled me or caught my eye much. i like the binding color. dont get me wrong, the neck is nice, and like you said, its a good showcase for different pieces of the same species. i still like the b&w ebony board better......then again, im a big macassar ebony fan so thats probably where im leaning towards the look of that piece. that b&w would probably also look real nice on black walnut, or wenge with some light accent strips in the core laminate.probably be quite bright though. actually any kind of darker wood would look nice.

Hey everybody, nearing the end of my first build. It's a thin-bodied archtop. Local Walnut back/sides, laminated Walnut neck, Bearclaw Spruce top, Flamed Maple binding, Bocote fretboard, pick-guard, truss rod cover and pickup mounting rings, Ziricote peghead overlay, Macasser Ebony bridge, and African Blackwood knobs. I just started finishing on Tuesday, I've got six or seven coats of tru-oil on the whole guit, waiting another few hours to put on another coat. Next week I'll be installing electronics and pickups, then I'm DONE!!!!

Okay Rusty, you just can't post photos without some info on the guitar … we're going to hound you if you don't fess up details :-)

It's a secret. But maybe I can get special clearance to divulge the info.

Ok - I got clearance.. :D

The double-cut is finished in poly urethane and the single-cut is a hand-rubbed Tung oil finish followed up with some wax. It's incredibly smooth and I'm exclusively focusing my builds on these Tung and wax finishes now.

I just finished up a full bodied acoustic & I'm in the process of building this, a deep bodied electric with some 50's would P-90s. I can't tell you what color yet but it will be a solid color with full binding, full pink mop inlay & B-6 Bigsby. As with most of my guitars it will feature a maple neck, back & sides & Sitka Spruce top. The innards will consist of Parallel bracing & a mix of Mahogany & Spruce pieces.

I always feel like I am 'double dipping' so to speak when I post builds in more than one place, but posts like these are a good overview of the work of our community, so here are a couple that I finished in the past 2 months:

a myrtlewood bass with ash core and mottled walnut back

and two LJ Doubles with very similarly bursted tops.

Chris - I think you and I are similar in that I have so many guitars started in shop (and beautiful work by the way!) - getting them finished tends to be more difficult. Some days wood just really inspires me - so I start up another guitar and then before I know it, I have 5 or 6 stock guitars of the same model in progress, while people's custom builds are still waiting patiently in the que. I have been really trying to get mroe focused - and spend only one or to nights a week on 'my' stuff with the rest going towards repairs and paid guitars.

Great post fillipo

stephen

It's got a 14.something inch body. Bearclaw Spruce top, Walnut back/sides with a maple wedge in the back, flamed maple binding, walnut neck, ziricote headstock overlay, bocote fingerboard (and truss rod cover, pickguard, heel-cap, and pickup mounting rings), african blackwood knobs, and macasser ebony bridge.

Lindy Fralin high-output humbuckers. Master volume, two independent tone knobs. The large switch goes between the humbuckers, and the two smaller knobs control coil tapping. The coin in the headstock is a Czech 50 krown coin (I was an exchange student there, lived there for a year when I was in high-school).
