Hi all,

Stupid question again I'm afraid. I'm about to start finishing my first electric build, and have decided I'm going to use wudtone, the question is I have a very small area between a bubinga strip I have bent to fit around the outside of my cover for the electrics, there is a very slight gap in one or two places I need to fill, any ideas on what I can fill with which won't cause problems with the stain/dye coats when I apply them.

Most use white or yellow glue and sandpaper. Sand the binding and the surrounding wood forcing the sludge into the gap. Is quick and dirty and shows the least of all the commercial fillers.

The glue method mentioned will show through the finish, especially with stain or dye. On a job like that I will stain/dye and then seal and than fill the small gaps with the appropriate burn in sticks.

What sort of wood is the rest of it? What color will you end up with? Translucent or opaque?

The main body is Sycamore (UK grown), with bubinga acting as a binding around the cover for the electrics.
I'm finishing the guitar with wudtones Carmine red, which is translucent but very bright red.

I had thought about finishing first then trying to match a filler in afterwards, but couldn't think what to use, (silly really as I'm a cabinet maker by day and use a variety of waxes throughout the day). As the gaps are really small, less than 0.5mm, and only really visible when I hold the cover up to the light. Do you think matching a shellac stick to the Bubinga would work alright.

Seems like sawdust filler would be visible as a very dark line. I have filled gaps with wood slivers cut with a plane. If the grain orientation matches, it is hard to see the repair. If I did not want to go through all of that work, I'd just fill the gap with Epoxy.
