If you want to be the first to make a guitar with veneered sides, we'll have to race.
I have two that I am working on that have veneered sides. It seems that we are working for a different final product though, the goal of mine is not to cover the tone wood, but I am trying to get multiple, decorative layers. I am building from ash and Padauk, and using lacewood, maple, and Padauk, as veneer on one guitar, and the other is an ash body layered with cocobolo and maple.
I have been having a difficult time with this part of the build, and it seems like you are much more experienced with this kind of thing than I am (These two will be my 3rd and 4th). If you are willing to share some of your methods, I would greatly appreciate it. I have tried a couple of different glues and clamping methods, with inconsistent results, but although it has been an arduous process, I think I will be able to get a good final result. I am looking forward to seeing your finished guitar, it seems that you are much more skilled at this than I am, nice work.
Here are a few pix I took today, it is still in a rough stage, but you get an idea about what I am trying to accomplish.
