Post subject: | cutaway top bracing |
I don't know if this has been directly covered before. I looked for "cutaway" in the previous post titles, but nothing turned up. I have an OM guitar that I'm building a new body for. I want this one to have a cutaway, but I don't know how to properly brace the top for it. Logic would indicate that I simply build the top as normal and just shorten the braces where the top ends, but logic has gotten me in trouble more times than I can count. Are there any "rules of thumb" for adapting a regular guitar plan to one for a cutaway top? Any differences in the head block, say? ___ |

For bracing, I follow that logic also when building cutaways. On the headblock, which mine are wider than the fingerboard, I trim off some on the cutaway side so that the fb edge is even with the side. Some builders don’t worry about that and just leave a ledge there. |

you are over thinking this the only brace that is inside the cutaway is the Popsicle brace don't install that till your ready to glue the top so you know where the kerfed lining is and you can allow the clearance for it |

If your transverse brace interferes with the cutaway, you can angle it so it clears. |
