Post subject:  Shellac: Seal coat or No?

I am using LMI's water-based pore filler with shellac to finish my guitar. Do I need a seal coat under the pore filler? The directions on the pore filler describe putting it directly on the wood, then sealing it. It seems many have talked about a seal coat of shellac first (certainly this is the order of ops when traditional pumice is used).

I have some test pieces of scrap mahog on which I am testing both methods. Just curious to hear from those more experienced than I.

Thanks!

Well i'm not a lot experienced, but I would told you to put a wash-coat. It will seal the pores prior to get filled, and will prevent to stain wood, because some porefillers can stain.
