I'm unsure what radius dish to buy for my new Martin OM top. I thought it was 25', but now I'm reading that it might be 28'. Does this make much of a difference. Can I get by with a 25'. Thank you Joe |

I have been using 28' and actually Martin uses even flatter tops, probably more like 40' but whatever radius you make your braces is what you need. If the braces cam from Martin you can sand them to match the dish you are using. My 1st guitar was a Martin kit and I glued the braces with the edges of the top raised to meet them with card stock shims and it came out fine though it is easier to use a radius dish and the dish is invaluable for sanding the rim before installing the top. If you are building a replacement top for a Martin and making your own braces then you can use what you want. That said there will be geometry changes needed on the neck and fretboard. |
