Does anyone know the scale length of the Stew Mac slot head 12 fret neck or is it where one can do any scale board on it. Being pre made I am assuming (bad thing to do I know) it is made with a scale length set. I note their fingerboards are if remember right (it was 5 minutes ago since read it so of course have forgotten by now) 25.4/25.34. I am guessing by that it is the 25.4. I was given one of their necks and doing a 12 fret and almost went with my norm 25.5 bracing scheme and for the bridge plate and bridge, then remembered in nick of time this is probably not a 25.5 scale neck. I don't care about a finger board as I will make one so can bind it. I can't find it on their site even in the instructions for the kit. |

Thanks John. I just wanted to confirm. JUST HOW STUPID it would be to build a 25.5 guitar with a 25.34 neck. I could have built a neck, but I am not sure it would have been a great thing. |

Stan, I'd layout a fingerboard on that neck just to be sure. Those 12 fret necks sometimes are made for 24.9" scales. It also depends on whether you put the nut on the peghead (traditionally where Martin puts it), or on the fingerboard where most builders put it. |

Measure it from the break at the headstock to the body joint. This will tell you the scale length as well as their intended nut placement. 12.45" ( ~12 7/16") will be 24.9" scale, 12.67" (~12 11/16") will be for a 25.34" scale. 12.75" will be for a 25.5" scale ect. If the actual measurements are longer than these, probably 3/16" to 1/4" they intend on the nut being placed on the flat part of the neck. If you've already got a fingerboard that fits the neck, but you want binding just run the sides of the fingerboard across a jointer to remove the thickness of the binding from each side. Mark the center and make sure you take the same amount off each side. This will keep the frets square with the centerline. That's alot easier than making another one. |
