This is a quick and easy bowl sanding jig I made to sand the top and back radius into the sides of an acoustic guitar rim set.
The bolt that the dish turns on is mounted to my bench by drilling a hole and pushing the bolt up from underneath and tightening it to the bench with a wing nut. The rims are blocked into the mold and the mold is clamped to the bench top.
Using this jig it takes me less than 10 minutes to radius one side of the rim.

Thanks, Lance - That is cool! I wonder how your right forearm is as the bolt sticking up seemed to hit it every turn

I think I have seen on the forum that someone has put a motor on this or some other way to drive it.

Did the number of turns in the vid reflect the total it took to complete the profile? If so, the a motor would be overkill, IMO.

Thanks again,

Hi Steve,
That was just a demo, it takes me a good 10 mins of sanding and checking.
Really all depends on how much wood needs to be removed.

The bolt is a tad tall, it probably should be trimmed to an inch or so over the dish.

Lance - Since the body tapers in thickness from the tail to the heel, how do you account for this? Is the bolt sticking straight out of the bench? Is the body form tilted to account for this?

YES :D

I cut my neck block and tail block to there final size, then I glue them in level with the top edge, flip it over and sand to until I reach the bottom of each block.

[headinwall] I think that I am just dense. Is that a threaded bolt all the way up. I can't tell in the video. If it is theaded rather than smooth, does that wear on the whole in the sanding disc? In the same thought, does a loose fit allow the disc to sit at an angle on the guitar sides? I really didn't follow the last answer about straight bolt vs tilted guitar. Please speak slowly and clearly - I are not smart and am confused with the details. I do love the simplicity of it. And how is your forearm? :)
