Post subject: | Martin Fretboard and bridge files |
I've been away from guitar building for almost 10 years but recently got an entry level CNC from someone local and that is getting me interested in building again. It's one of the Chinese 6040 machines with 1500W spindle running Mach3 (don't laugh, I know you guys use REAL CNC machines). I would like to have a larger, better machine but just don't have the room for anything much bigger right now. Does anyone know where I can get a file for a Martin 25.4 fretboard and a Martin bridge? I have downloaded Fusion 360, but it's going to be sometime before I can actually design something in 360 myself. However, I have successfully engraved a square in a piece of pine so far.... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Alan |

Alan, Go to Grabcad.com and do a search but leave out “Martin”. You’ll find what you’re looking for but then your real work begins. Tom |

Nothing wrong with a Chinese 6040 machine and Mach 3. You can do a lot with that. Like Tom said, check out Grabcad.com. There's a lot of stuff out there. Dave |

Thanks for the heads up on grabcad. There's enough stuff there to keep someone busy for a long time. I tried several different searches and did find a few bridges, but couldn't find a martin 25.4 fretboard. I spent all day trying to make one myself in fusion 360 and finally gave up in frustration. If someone has another source they could point me to for a Martin fretboard, I would greatly appreciate it. I'll keep slugging away at fusion and I'm sure I'll eventually get the hang of it. It's quite a bit more sophisticated than the software I use to design projects and run my Co2 and fiber lasers, so it's going to take some time. Again, thanks. I appreciate all the help. Alan |

Here's a link to some plans that are fairly easily imported into CAD programs. They include fingerboards as well as bridges: https://genone-luthier-supply.com/collections/6-string-acoustic-guitar-plans |

Would like to have the bridge design from them as well, but it was another $30. I need to order some bits now and start practicing on some scrap wood. Alan |

Alan, Pm me your email address and I’ll send you a few bridge files for you to play around with, both belly and pyramid style. Tom |
