Post subject:  X brace to cover or not to cover

Hi does anybody tend to cover the x brace joint with anything ..seen some pics of what looked like cloth but not sure
any ideas ?

I use linen saturated with whatever glue I'm using. Just a little strip to bridge the top of the junction.

Yes. I place a spruce bridge. Part of the hocus pocus I was taught at an Ervin Somogyi seminar. He claimed you radically weakened an X brace by cutting a lap joint into it. You need to restore the lost strength.

Sounds logical. Does it actually make a particle of difference? Only God an Somogyi know for sure.

IMHO, if the joint is very tight, I'm not one to believe it makes much difference. I've put them in and left them out. I am also a big fan of Collings guitars, made here in Texas , and noticed they don't put a cap on the joint. It certainly doesn't hurt to cap it, so if you want to, go for it.
