Bought this machine, I know zero about programming, or running a CNC
But hey, I'll never learn until I try, right?

Nice machine. Nothing to worry about...ask the question and I know there are plenty that can point you in the right direction. Think on the bright side, with CNC you can screw things up faster so think of all the time you will be saving!

You must never touch the red button!

Welcome aboard Jimmy.

Thanks, and I agree, it is a much more efficient way to screw up. What took me minutes to screw up will now take seconds!

What does the red button do Andy? And why shouldn't I touch it?

You'd think when worlds collide they'd do it slowly but when your world comes crashing down I assure you...you won't stop it in time with the red button.

...unless you live with your hand on the button....and you're the Pinball Wizard.

...the tyrannical red button...consumer of lives...binder of souls...horder of freedom.

Between drawing, creating cutting paths, and making fixtures... Unless you make a lot of the same parts I don't think it will speed up the screwing up process at all.

My red button cuts power to my motors...I use it so I can leave the machine on but cut power to the motors to stop the dithering from eating up power. Along with the UPS on the control/encoders, it means I can leave a job on the machine and go away for a few days during hurricane season without my machine losing position :)

It is never close enough when you -really- need it, though, that is so very true!

I don't have a red button. I learned that when sh!t hits the fan it's too late. So just stop it when you can and start over. One less thing to trigger phantom problems. :) That's what they make 0.01Uf caps for, they filter the Phantom Triggers. :)

Congrats Jimmy! I am only a few months ahead of you, and I too had zero milling experience prior to bringing this dandy little tool home. Loving it though, and it has quickly become a welcome addition to my shop!

Oh...and the red button will be your friend!

Ken

I actually am going to sell this thing I think. I don't have the time required for it unfortunately.
