Has anyone tried button shellac for french polish or just as a finish?According to shellac.net it is polymerized and very water resistant and tough. It`s used for floors.I mean if it`s tough enough to walk on? I really like the look of shellac, but it has durability issues.Maybe this stuff could solve some of that? James |

I think you may have accidentally posted on the wrong board (as this doesn't have anything to do with cnc). Try reposting on the main building board and you should get some answers. Josh |

Lance please move this? I have done a fair bit of pestering sending questions to various people that are using seedlac or buttonlac and all seem to agree these are better than the dewaxed and bleached varieties, however nobody is willing to claim they are much better. Additionally you can start adding various amounts of various hard natural resins, likely making the film even tougher. But tougher doesn't mean it resists sweat better, and I have read no clear indication in this regard yet. IMO this is the only real problem of shellac, the low resistance to sweat. I don't really care about it being hard as I expect the player to take care of the guitar. Scrubbing it with buttons, zippers or careless playing touching the soundboard with a pick or with the nails are not an indication that the finish needs to be tougher, but that the players needs some education and discipline, at least when it comes to CGs. That darn sweat is the only problem. This being said I am currently dewaxing my first batch of orange buttonlac. After two days a bit of the wax settled and I expect that after 2 weeks or so i will be able to pour our a decent amount of clear stuff. |
