Post subject:  How to handle text in Rhino

Any tips on how to add notes to drawings in Rhino? I just need a single stroke font for title blocks and drawing notes for reference and printing.

The Text command if you want only visible text, and the TextObj command if you want actual geometry (curves) created for the test

Thanks Bob. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'm suprized that there isn't a toolbar button or right click option for that.

Sheldon, you can make a button for any command in Rhino you desire. I haven't done it yet, but there are helps out there that show you how to do it.

Easier to search the drop-down menus or the help file, I imagine they have all kinds of commands missing from the toolbars. I've never used the toolbars (hate icon-based interfaces), only the drop-down menus and text commands.

Ewww! I've only had the displeasure of spending a few painful hours in AutoCAD.

I find icon based interfaces waste screen space in programs like Rhino where there are loads of commands, and they're slower if there's a console or hotkeys available. The console is so much more efficient (especially on commands with input like move) you'll never go back once you get used to it.

Are you typing in commands with both hands or can you keep one on the mouse like with AutoCAD?

I've programmed two thumbside buttons on my mouse at work to emulate shift and control. This works good in ProE anyways as the left hand doesn't need to be on the key board all the time. Programmable map keys are great also for a few of the repetitive commands such as for right view, front etc. Not sure if Rhino has key programming available however.

I type with both hands. Often commands take text inputs for their parameters so it's quicker to get all the typing done at once.

If you're more of a one-hander, you can set hotkeys and aliases in the options.
