Well,

I guess Gibson is jumping on the plek bandwagon!

I think my next LP will be a Dusk Tiger Replica, minus the electronics....

Yeah.....they're off and running with Plek. Good for Plek I guess. It must work or Gibson wouldn't have bought into it. Right?

But I wonder about the onboard electronics. Am I a luddite or does sticking active electronics on an electric guitar seem wrong to anyone else? Is this a gimmick? While I can conceive of a reason to put full-scale electronics on the guitar...as an older player I'd rather choose the guitar and amp for tone than have another learning curve to deal with. I guess some players want that control on board but off-guitar processing is quite amazing these days.

I'm having a hard time identifying why this annoys me. :(

Yo, Zlurgh,

Yes, annoying it is, until I bear in mind that the youth of today want it new, fast, gassed up, keys in it and on line with all the toots, bells 'n' whistles being state of the art and one click away. You know, like the fins on a '59 Caddy. Well me, me just too old for that stuff, and as such see through the sillyness of it all. But hey, Gibson is a corporation, and just like any other corporation selling gadgets, they are now flogging their version of "the best".

Is just another one of lifes "Oh wells."

Me still prefer and old hog or a tin can National.

Is life.

Icu
blessings,
duh

I understand the whole argument with the integrated electronics, but you have to admit, that is some pretty cool technology! I mean servos integrated into the tuning pegs, and then automatically being able to turn the pegs and have the guitar tune to whatever you want, is neat!

I do get the whole argument however, that when you have technology doing this for you, how good are you ever going to be? I guess the same argument can be made (and I am sure many were made) when the calculator first came out...

LOL!

Anyway, recently I have been playing with a piece of software from native instruments, Guitar Rig. Let me tell you , I was skeptical, but that thing has changed my mind, and the modeling capabilities of it are quite astonishing....

Can't wait to see what is next?

Maybe they will build a guitar that will actually be able to string itself, once you pop a high E!

laughing6-hehe
