As there's not much going on here, and to celebrate the fact that the image upload has been fixed, here's that odd-shaped reso now it's a bit more together. |

Roundneck, Chris: The cross-USA run was from New York to Los Angeles - down the east coast then across from Louisiana through Texas, Arizona and so on. I think we'll probably just tour the southwest for the next trip but someday I want to do a music-based journey down the east again, bluegrass to cajun via blues and country (geographically that is). |

Very cool pete, love the retro/Maybell style and beautiful woods! This is travel unit right? Going to have a p/u at all? |

That's Cool! I really like it. As Mike said, great woods and design both. Just fantastic! Not to steal the thread, but..... I think I may have my first commission for a squareneck. An old friend who dropped by on Saturday (Read the Near Fatal Accident thread) loved my all-maple one that I made a couple years back. He was so excited he was ready to place the order then and there. I should have let him...but I have other stuff going on at the moment. |

You're right, Mike, it's a travel guitar with the 9 inch spider cone. I'll be fitting the usual Schatten pickup. |

Brilliant as usual Pete. What a combo, a travel 'dobro' with a chicken-foot cover and Allen tailpiece! Who's cone and spider are you using? |

Sorry, guys, been a bit too budsy to do much web browsing lately. There's a sound clip at http://www.petewoodmanguitars.com/shared/BR_002.MP3, which I did as soon as I strung it up. It already sounded different the next day and that ring on the 1st string disappeared without my having to do anything. If it's like the others it will develop more depth of tone over the next couple of years. It's a travel guitar so it uses a 9 inch dobro-style Quarterman mandolin cone - they don't sound like a full-sized dobro but it's still an interesting sound. In fact the squareneck version sounds a lot like an old tricone. The spider is a mandolin spider from Paul Beard - they're not on the website but they still sell them. The bridge is offset so you have to think about the scale length a bit. I wish they'd make them with the bridge in the centre like the original Dobro ones. |
