Hello everyone. I am a new member to the forum and I am excided about having such a resource available. I have not built any instruments at this time however, I am researching and planning to make an 18th century style guitar. For now i have another question that has come up among the pickers I hang around with. Can someone tell me why guitars are marked on the ninth fret and banjos and mandolins are marked on the tenth fret? |

Yes and no something to do with musical scales, the way they are tuned and blues runs or some sort of mumbo jumbo like that. now just a few days back me read a clear and understandable reason for that over at http://www.luthiercom.org Me thinks it was by Dave White a British Luthier. here be his web page http://www.defaoiteguitars.com now if it wasn't him, just log on to http://www.luthiercom.org and ask the question there. blessings the Padam |
