Post subject:  12 String Nut and Bridge Layout Questions

I'm in the process of planning out a 12-string, 12-fret slope-shouldered dred. Can anyone direct me to a reliable layout scheme for the nut and bridge pins. I plan to use 1.75" at the nut and the 2.30" string spacing at the saddle. I typically use the SM nut spacing scale but I'm at a loss as to how to use it for 12 strings.

TIA

I will dig tonight to see If I still have dxf of a 12-string and fretboard layout on my system at home.

I can with some confidence tell you that you will not like the spacing on a 1.75 nut. you either have to put the high octave strings too close to the low octave or you have to decrease the base course spacing too much at 1.75" nut. 1.875 is much more conducive to a 12 string

Thanks Michael. You may be right about the spacing but that's why I want to lay it out and evaluate first. Looking forward to your info!

G'day JJ

There's some information here.

You may not be interested in the 6 pin bridge but the spacing info will be relevant.

And Paul Woolson has done a toot here.

Did that pic of you and Morgan Freeman ever get through?

Thanks, Bob...I actually finished a bridge as well as a layout for 12 pins. I also contacted Paul and he too reminded me of his tutorial.

I sure did get the Morgan Freeman pic...thanks. I wasn't certain one could focus a camera with such a blood/alcohol level...but then I remembered that you're an Irishman from OZ!

We were fortunate to have you in our presence if for only such a short time! [:Y:]

Yeah that anti-shake technology in the new cameras is amazing. ;)
