Back when I used to do laquer and wanted to shade or burst a top, I would spray water stains from an airbrush right on the wood after raising the grain and then a couple coats of sanding sealer to lock everything down. Now I'm spraying KTM9 and I'm a little afraid the color from the stain will bleed up into the finish. I like the way the stain looks when applied directly to the wood so I'm not in a real hurry to change that. The grain stays more visible (IMHO) when you do it this way as opposed to adding colors to the finish. Anyone have any experience with shading under waterborne finish. |

KTM-9 should not have problem with a waterborne stain. If it is composed of something other than waterbase, it will be a trial and error on a scrap piece. hope this helps, matt |
