Hey, thought I would show you this curly Narra 3 piece Dreadnought. It has only had a coat of sealer sprayed on. No sanding. It has ebony bindings, sitka top and EIR strips between the back plates. Beautiful wood. As usual the pics do not do it justice. Smells sweet when working too.
Love this wood.

Anyone else use it?
Narra neck nearly finished, just waiting for some gold fret wire to match the santos RW fretboard.
Cheers
Dominic

I know that Michael P has used it, twice, right, Michael?
My bro has used it as well. It's a gorgeous wood, and makes a wonderful instrument.
Now, where did you get your set?
That's really nice.

Looking good Dominic.

It does smell nice huh? I get mine from the local lumber yard for $9 per superfoot (12" x 12" x 1"), hard to beat it for the $$$.

I've used it for a couple of necks. It makes a good neck but it's difficult to carve because of the interlocking grain. Better to forgo the edged tools and use rasps and files.

Thanks guys. This is my first dred and the box sounds more boingy then the 000s I have made so far. As soon as i get it together i will post some more pics.

Steve, I got it from a local supplier
[URL=http://www.luthierssupplies.com.au]
When I saw how nice it was (and how cheap, i paid between $50 and $80 per set) I bought another 4 sets. All gone from this batch now i think.

Thanks for the tip paul. It has a Narra (PNG Rosewood) neck with a strip of Qld walnut down the centre. And I hassle the local place here also but in Canberra the local place is small. But I get enough.

The Santos RW FB also smells nice but different and it is very orange. Overall the best smelling guitar I have made. Should look pretty over the top with gold frets. But nothing else would hold its own against this wood.

Yeper in fact I have two on the bench right now that are Curly Narra.

It is a great wood to work with tone is like blend between Koa and Rosewood

Man that is the tightest curl I have ever seen in Narra.
I also seems to be a bit more yellow in color than what I get. I don't mean that in critical way just noticing the difference. The Narra I get from our own super hero wood dealer Uncle Bob, AKA Zootman wets down a bit red'r that yours did.

Awesome work Dominic

Thanks guys.
MichaelP, I put epoxy filler on it so that might explain some of the the yellow. The amber in it sure did bring out the grain. The bits I have for the neck are much more orangebrown. But even dry this stuff is very light coloured.
It makes me sad to think that there may have been lots more from this tree that went to something really stupid... like furniture
Spike Milligan wrote a poem about the stupidity of cutting down hundred foot trees to makes chairs which when sat on, only make him appear shorter.
