Hi all, I inadvertantly cracked a side on a guitar while trying to drill the soundport. I guess I didn't reinforce it enough before drilling, plus my side was probably a little thinner than normal here.

Anyhow, the crack and chip are almost invisible when held together by hand. What is the best glue to use for the repair, Titebond, CA, epoxy? The only glue I really don't feel comfortable with yet is HHG. I haven't finished the guitar yet but will use an epoxy pore filler and KTM9 if that makes a difference.

Thanks!

John

Any of the above, I'd say. No real stresses, creep risk, serviceability issues - whatever glue bottle is nearest should work fine.

I'm no repair guy, but I thought that CA will stain light colored wood like maple. I had heard that CA on rosewood is no problem, but you may see that ugly yellow stain show up on lighter woods. So I would say if you are using Rosewood, then any of those glues would work. If a light colored wood is used, maybe go with tightbond. Good luck, and a real bummer that you cracked that side. But I'm sure it will be fine once glued.

For maple I'd use white glue.  Anything else I'd use CA.

I like titebond for repairs like this.
If you put some on your finger and gently rub it in to th crack with your
finger from the inside of the rib until comes through to the other side .
Clean up the squeeze out etc and apply some tape to apply clamping
presure.
Leave overnight and bobs your uncle invisable repair that will outlast the
guitar.

Since you don't use hhg,yet I would go with titebond and work
it into the crack as Joel said above. It should be invisible.

Fish glue...from experience...virtually undetectable. I've learned to love it thanks to David Collins!
