Hello,

Has anybody here ever tried Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis) for a sound boards?

It is found almost exclusively in the Northeast US and Canada, however, I've never heard of anyone using it as compared with Western Red Cedar.  I may have some access to some clear quarter sawn pieces and may decide in the future to try...

Thanks,

Ray

There is also Chamaecyporis thyoides (Atlantic White Cedar) which used to be used for organ pipes, because it was so resonant. This may be better than Arbor Vitae, which is Thuja occidentalis, but I do not know.
