I was sorry to hear of Dans death from cancer. He was a great singer/songwriter and guitar player.Just a great musician and a great person! He will be missed! Some of his songs are my all time favorites.."Same old Lang Syne" and "Leader of the band" come to mind. RIP Dan

As I opened up msnbc.com over the familiar notes "Same Old Lang Syne," being played for the umpteenth time as part of the Christmas montage, news of Dan's passing broke my heart. I won't go into long stories of seeing him in concert twice and what his music means to myself and my uncle (unless requested). Suffice it to say, however, although I never met the man I feel I've lost a dear, true friend. Tonight, the lights will dim and the stylus will rumble through the grooves of a well-worn copy of "Netherlands" one more time. Here's to the man who could hold an entire symphony orchestra overtime while he rewrote that album's title track in the studio and on the clock. Here's to the man gifted with the ability to say what broken hearts feel and loose melody from chained cacophany. Here's to Dan-- we'll miss you until we meet, either again or for the first time, in a much better place.

Dan F. grew up where I went to college, so I always felt a special bond with his music. Gonna dig out the vinyl tonight.

It is not too often that one is able to actually see a master musician that is still alive. I was able to do this, several times. Dan was able to tell stories with song and through music that nobody else could tell. I will enjoy his music the rest of my life.

I was sixteen when I first heard his song “Looking for a lady”. Certainly not one of his well noted songs,
but it touched my heart deeply. As naive as it may sound, that song began a self search for
who I was, and who I wanted to be with for the rest of my life. For the next 3 decades I looked
for that lady. After 2 failed marriages, and many changes to my perspective of life, I had finally
found that lady. We have been together for nearly 12 years. We have 2 young boys, and I couldn’t
have asked for better mother to my children.

Yes, just a simple song. And, for what ever reason why, that song was an inspiration for me.

Thanks Dan!

I remember that song Robert.I think it was on his album
"Home Free" recorded back in the early 70's. Nice song.

One of his greatest songs, I believe, was "Hearts and Crafts." It all centers around one incredible line... "And I asked if you still considered love an art, and you said, 'No, I think it's more a craft.'" Has to be true... that's just too good to make up!
