I have a 3/4 HP Gast Vacuum and it works very well. However, the sound it produces drives me crazy. It kind of sounds like a compressor running and is very loud. Does anyone have any ideas how to decrease the sound levels?

Thanks!

I have a similar issue, and a similar pump. I believe the answer is a muffler, which I "think" can be purchased from the Joe Woodworker site.   I haven't bought one yet, but I'll be interested in the answers to this question, too.

Bill...I did notice the muffler on the JW site and it seemed worth trying for a few bucks. Did you build the setup like Joe Woodworker has (ie reserve tank, etc)? I am thinking that this may also keep the noise down since the pump will only run periodically.

Brad:

Sent you a PM to talk more about the reservoir system. But the short answer to your question is yes, the reservoir system will keep your pump from running as often. The length of time your pump runs will be directly related to the size of your reservoir, and the airtight nature of your vacumning process/jigs, etc. If things are very tight, and the reservoir is adequate, it is possible to have your pump cycle on/off only a few times an hour.
