Dave,

There is an option in Preferences (Mac) or OPtions where you can opt for no images. The files that retain those setting get hosed up sometimes.

Mac or Windows?

Andy that sounds more like a security setting issue than the browser itself. I'm using the latest Firefox and am having no troubles on my Mac.

Firefox has worked flawlessly for me from the get-go.  I would try a reinstall, to make sure the settings are right.  Did it happen after an update?  I noticed over the last couple of weeks that Firefox has updated itself several times.

Don I have called Dave Andy also so he is used to it

Dave/Andy be sure that you have the latest version of Firefox installed too - click "Help" and then check for updates.  An update may fix it.

The best way to get the most current version is to download it again and let it install itself.  Otherwise, you'll have to save the installation file, then double click on it to install.  You can save it to your desktop and install from there.

If you decide to try reinstalling:

Sometimes you get better results if you go to the Control Panels and use Add or REmove Programs to remove the original Firefox. This will remove .dll and other files and registry stuff, leaving better chances of a clean re-install. If you have a large stash of bookmarks, this should get you to where you can back them up.

The advice on uninstalling from <Control Panel>, <Add / Remove Programs> is a good one.  It will be the most likely way to get a good clean reinstall.  If you have not tried it, try deleting all temporary Internet files and offline content before you reinstall, and see if that works.  I have had a couple of glitches that that fixed immediately, so I didn't really consider it a problem.  It is a good idea to do it from time to time anyway.

Thanks a lot guys. I tried reinstalling But it was still messed up. I deleted temp files ,cookies and so on - No change. Its strange that all my bookmarks were still there after I uninstalled it from the control panel. Only the OLF is not cooperating! All the other bookmarks are working fine.

You aren't blocking cookies are you?  You on a Mac or a PC?  It isn't a firewall issue is it?

I know what you mean.  I have one piece of software that crashes on every machine I have except my laptop.  Don't know why.  Must be a interfering driver or something.  Can't figure it out.

Re: Firefox.  I'm using Window Firewall too.  Probably not it.  Under <Tools> <Options> <Content> tab, are all the boxes checked?

Dave have you tried "System Restore" and restore to a point in time prior to the issues?  Be sure to back up your documents and pics first.

System restore should not have any effect on stored files, only system files.  Can't tell you how many times I've used it, and have never lost a file.

That's not to say that a backup isn't a good idea though.

Good point Waddy - I didn't know that and only used system restore once years ago.

For my PC's I make a point to back-up all my docs and pics once a year and doing a fresh install including all updates.  Then I plug in a second Raptor drive that is installed in the PC but left unplugged and I create a mirror of the fresh install.  Then that drive gets unplugged for another year.  Cheap insurance against a hard drive failure and you are not consuming the power or dealing with the noise of a second drive all the time.

I have used RAID -0 configurations too but for what I do there is no noticeable difference.

My laptop and my office machine are pretty much clones of each other.  I sync them every day.  I also use Carbonite to maintain an offsite backup of all data.  Pretty cheap insurance for $50 per year.
