Anyone know a supplier that sells Metal Acid Dyes in larger containers than those little 2oz bottles?

US Cellulose.   About $45.00 per gallon. They call the stuff MEK Soluble Dye.

Rick, US Cellulose let their domain name go this past May. Where, specifically, do you get yours? Google is coming up empty...

BTw, just came in from a spray session. Have I thanked you for turning me onto this polyester stuff, lately? I just went back to double check everything and shut off the little blower(it's -18.1°c right now, and having blowers 'on' is murder on the heat, and the RH), and took a look at the pieces. If not for the two dust numbs that stood out on the neck, I could use it as-is without buffing, and still have a better finish than 98% of what's out there. This stuff makes finishing fun again!

Yep, I remember when we switched to urethanes from lacquer in the 80's. It made it fun to walk in the booth and paint a car. The confidence in the material alone made you spray better!

I used to buy those MEK dyes in five gallon jugs for my acrylizing process. It was very compatible with my resins. They are concentrates so a gallon goes a long way. U S Cellulose has a plant in Chico, but I don't believe they'll sell direct anymore. Gotta buy from one of their distributors. Last local price quote I got this year was $65/gallon. You can email them for a distributor list in your area.

I stopped using the liquid MEK dyes last year after I found a source for the base powder dye base they use...now I mix my own in the shop and shipping the powder does not require haz material shipping up-charges like the liquid MEK dyes do.

I sold off all my stock of liquid dyes to a competitor friend who still had those colors in his catalog, but now I've huge stabilizing order using one of those old colors!!!

Hey Joe...I'm hoping to be your first customer! See what dyes you need to do a root beer finish on the LP I'm completing. Lots of extreme maple figuring so we need to tease out the zoot under finish. The back is regular old mahogany.

Cool JJ. I should have that bug worked out ahead of time. I'm getting ready to shadow the edge of a cedar top in a similar tone. That's where all the interest in dyes is coming from. Larry, I'd love to hear more about the powders. It would be nice to avoid any more liquid storage than I have to.
