I almost busted a gut laughing at this when I saw it. I got this from Frank Ford's site.. I dont think he would mind me sharing it. As Larry the cable guy would say...."I dont care who you are, that's funny"

Is that what them silver thingies is for? I thought they was wat stopped you're ax from gettin yanked out ya hand when you was us'in it in a bar fight. I been tryin me strings to a 3" nail I whacked into the woody bit at the pointy end and I do me tun'in with a pair o multigrips worked for me.

Ha! You guys laugh all you like but I always sting my guitar like that, the extra, uh, tension gives the, uh, bass notes a really piano-like-but-not-muddy tone. I also use depleted uranium bridge pins...

They get better TV reception that way........

Well, that's funny...until you realize that IF that photo showed up on an official "Martin" brochure, before long it would be standard stringing procedure.

The name on the headstock makes it all worthwhile.

On Frank's site, he says that the instrument came in strung up that way and the complaint was that they couldnt keep it in tune. 5 of the 6 strings were actually strung backwards as well as most of them not being strung on the right tuner.

It is funny how we take things for granted. Just assuming that because someone bought an expensive guitar doesnt necessarily mean they know anything about guitars...

One of my customers years ago came back with that complaint about the lute I sold him. He had changed some strings, and managed somehow to wrap a couple of the new ones right around one or two of the old strings between the nut and the peg. Altering the tension on any of thse strings automatically changed the others as well. It's amazing how much better it worked when I got the bird's nest out.   

I'd hate to see how they string up a strat. That six in a line tuners now that can be confusing.

probably shouldn't be saying this in public, but I did the confederate flag
paint job and Git'R'Done inlay on his guitar. I've never seen any of his videos,
but have been told he uses it on some.

That's cool David. I (wait, what's wrong with liking Larry the cable guy), saw a couple of his performances here in Austin and he had that guitar with him. Although I didn't see it up real close, it looked good from where I was. Great job!

I did get a waldlute once where the previous 'repairman' had glued in the bridge pins. Does that count?

I think I've figured out what the guy was trying to do. If you think that the strings should be wound in the opposite direction or normal, you will run into problems with the string brushing into other tuning posts. The low E string goes on OK. So would the A string but then the D string won't because the A turner is in the way. But wait, if you used the D turner for the A string, then it works. Now what to do with the D string. You don't want to use the A tuner because you'll need that for the B string. OK put it on the G tuner. The G string then goes on the B tuner with lots of clearance. The B string has to go somewhere and the A tuner is available. The high E goes on it's normal tuner. All of this is necessary to make the strings tune in the opposite direction. Oops! Why is the B string turned the wrong way? Its because it is on the wrong side of the peghead.
Very logical.

Maybe he uses some special tuning that allows him to make all of his tuning changes on the player's side of the peghead.  The others don't change, so he doesn't have to keep reaching under to make changes there.
