I'm installing a Baggs I-Mix system today and was curious if people have a favorite battery bag placement. I've typically put these on the neck block but thought maybe my friends here had some brilliant words of wisdom on the subject.

I think the neck block is the only place for the battery. The mass of the neck block provides a solid, buzz-free mounting, and the battery is easily accessible from the soundhole when it comes time for a swap out.

I put them on the base side so they are not suspended when playing.
Lately I have been exclusively using K & K pure westerns..an awesome
passive...no battery

Jim, one of the features is that we use a DC to DC converter to kick the 3 Volts from the two AA cells up to 18 volts to give the system much more headroom.   While I understand the liking of passive soundboard transducers, they can be a feedback nightmare, and UST systems are much more feedback resistant.   We've gotten very good reviews of our Wavelength pickups with or without the Load'n'Lock battery access.
