Taking advice from many of you, I am building the L-00 from Hond. Mahog and sitka top. Questions.
What should I use for braces-addi, sitka,??
What bracing pattern and parabolic or scall.
What pattern for bracing (have seen diff. ones here)
Differences in bracing and or tone building 12 or 14 fret.

Addy if you have any, Sitka would work well too.

1/4 inch bracing, one finger brace.

Build light.

I love my L-OO but never took picts of the bracing.
BUILD IT LIGHT!!!!!
One finger brace on each side. Maybe one tone bar
My X brace was just under 1/2" inch tall before the cap....Light!!!

I am going to pick up the L-00 plans I think.  However, I was wondering the scale length?  I owned a 1938 L-00 (I sold it when $ was tight a few years back, wish I still had it!).  I never checked the scale, but it certainly was short.

Bob here are some shots of the two that I built.  Although they both sound great IMHO if I were to do it again the 1/2" or less X intersection is good advice.





It's funny to me that when I built these I was paranoid that I was bracing to light.....  Now when I revisit these pics I look at them and think that I braced to heavy.......

The two L-OOs ended up weighing in at 3.2 lbs for the hog/euro and 3.6 lbs for the Tiger Myrtle/Lutz.

First L-00 I ever played was a Collings C10 Deluxe with Indian rosewood. Never forgot it. Blues machines these babies.

Interestingly the GAL L-OO plan that I ordered came today.

This plan will tell you everything that you ever wanted to know about the L-OO.  It is an excellent plan in all respects.

Top and bracing material was thought to be red spruce.  The X intersection is 1/2" high and butted and not a lap joint.  One brace is the full length X-brace and the other is simply butted on both sides with a funky looking little wood wedge to fill in the gaps between the triangular profile of the long brace and the square cut of the butted brace.  This joint is covered in a patch and also credited as being one of the two major reasons these little guitars fail.......  From the looks of the bracing and the butted X-brace intersection these are real pumpers which probably contributed to the lack of them around today.....

Anyway I don't want to step on GAL's toes here so get the plan - highly recommended, and you will have all the info that you could ever want.

Hesh, its interesting the X joint is 1/2" tall and butted. To match that stiffness a lapped X brace would be even less than 1/2". So I guess "build it light" is good advice.
